Al,
I went through this 'qwest' last fall, after a Ford f150 backed into my freshly
restored bugeye.
At the time I could only track down 3 other original steel bonnets. The asking
prices in the bay area ranged from $500-$1000 dollars. Unfortunately, all the
ones I looked at were in worse shape than the one I wanted to replace! In fact,
the two $500 ones I wouldn't have given $150 for, since each of those was
pretty
rough. The seller was convinced they were worth more, and wouldn't budge on his
price.
I ended up just having mine reworked.
You may get lucky, and find one from someone, who doesn't think he's got a
'gold
mine'. If you can find a 'straight' bonnet that has only a few small dents, for
under $500 then that's probably a pretty good deal
Good luck.
