If the young lady insists on keeping this up you may want to consider the 
racers trick and have the axles Cryoed...its a cryogenic hardening process.  
I think you can check it out at www.cryoone.com  or pop cryogenics and racing 
in your browser.  Not real cheap but easier than finding axles, and more cost 
effective if you have to keep shipping them from the UK.  Or get a shortened 
Ford 9" made for the car ;)
