I bought my first house in a sealed bid auction. I bid $76,301 so that I
would beat not only the people who bid $76k, but also the ones who bid
$76,001, $76,100, etc. I ended up winning the bid by only $1300. Never bid
an even or predictable number in a sealed bid or blind auction. As a post
script, with very little investment I resold the house 20 months later for
$118,000. I've never tried it since, as when in Reno, once I win, I walk
away.
