Next year a significant Healey event will take place. Several Healeys are
entered in the Around the World Rally that will circumnavigate the globe in
80 days. Please check out the web site at www.aroundtheworld.scotland.net for
information on the special Healey being prepared for this event. We need your
help. The rules ambiguously discouraged advanced tech support so I was
quietly assembling a team to be in the right place at the right time during
the North American leg. Today the rules were lifted to allow advance planning
but no full time support vehicles so we are going public.
Below is an outline of what we have in place. In a separate email I will list
the itinerary. We have several holes in the route and need volunteers to
coordinate at those stops. Please take a look at what we have done and the
itinerary and let me know if you can help at any of these locations.
Thanks,
Jim Werner
First Parts Suppliers: Healey Surgeons and British Car Specialists have
agreed to provide after hours service for the Hunt's and arrange special
shipping.
I plotted the route and mailed letters to AHCA and AHUSA members along the
way. I have received several responses so far. The Hutton's have volunteered
to assist in Anchorage Alaska. Coming out of China this will be a major
service point and the first chance at parts in a while. The Hunt's may also
ship some personal supplies in anticipation of the trip across North America.
Next we have Jack Winkelaar who has organized a group of eight Healey owners
in Kamloops B. C. On to the Schmid's in Billings Montana, they own a machine
shop which will be an asset. In Minnesota, Dick Brill has volunteered to lead
that effort. In Marquette Michigan the Hunt's will be hosted by John Stevens.
Bob Brown of Chicago has organized a group from the Midwest Club that will
follow the rally route from Marquette to Bay City and provide support. In
Niagara Falls, Rich Chrysler will lead a service crew.
The final service in Newark, NJ is being coordinated by Baird Foster of the
AHCA that will have members of Sports and Touring taking over in NJ.
We still have some gaps in coverage. If you have any suggestions on whom to
contact please let us know. I think we are doing very well so far and I know
that the Hunt's greatly appreciate all your efforts.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and again thank you for your support.
