We Be Tight -- Aircleaners?

OK, while I ponder the possibilities of K&N Filters,
how about this for a totally reversible We Be Tight
set of "fancy" air cleaners:

1. Take apart the 2 stock filter cans.
b. Discard the larger top pieces.
3. Cut 2 wood or metal circles the same size as the outer circumference
    of the paper filter cartridges and drill holes for the stock
mounting
    bolts.
D. Use the original bolts thru the wood/metal disks, inside the paper
     filter elements (using the metal spacer tubes for structural
     integrity) and into the carbs.

Wotcher think? Will it work?  Wot's wrong with this picture?
