Hello David, and Listers,
Bob K. was kind enough to post the following information about the dates
of the Healey Round-Up :-
April 7-8, 2000
at Inn of the Hills Conference Resort
Kerrville, TX
Contact:
Gulf Coast Healey Club
C/O Edie Lowery
11203 Crayford Court
Houston, TX 77065-4172
Registration is $55
Saturday dinner is $24/person
Sunday brunch is $12.50/person
As this seems to be the time when the majority of people seem able to
attend, I suppose that this is when we should do it - Majority Rules -
Right? That doesn't mean that I am averse to having another one at a later
time in the year, if this proves to be a success - it is all up to you lot.
If we can co-ordinate a time and place to meet up in - say - San
Antonio -
then I really think that a rally out to our place is probably the best bet.
We really do live off the beaten track, just ask Leo S. I think I
mentioned that we have some friends, locally, who were very heavily into
rallying, and they are prepared to help with that. We'd need to give
everyone a package with the actual directions as well, just in case anyone
got lost.
We don't have masses of land, but we think that we could accomodate a
fair
number of RVs and/or tents here, without obstruction from the trees. If
enough people were coming, I will look into the cost of hiring a couple of
port-a-potties, so as not to put too great a strain on the septic tanks.
Kerrville is about 25 miles from here - so it is possible that you may
want to stay here and commute to the event. I don't have a problem with
that - but I don't want to step on anyone's toes - so, if that is a
problem, will someone please tell me. Would it be best to contact Edie
Lowery to inform him of what we plan to do? If Listers wanted to come down
a few days before, or stay a few days after, that would be fine with me
too. We have some beautiful countryside here, some great LBC roads, and the
local antique 'industry' would be more than happy to take your money from
you. My mother, from England, will be here during that time frame, so
you'll have at least four 'Limeys' to deal with (to include my two daughters).
On the subject of children - We have a fifteen yr. old daughter, and a 3
yr. old grandson at home with us, so, please bear that in mind. We do have
dogs, none of them are unpleasant, but one if them is rather big. They are
all used to children, so bringing your own children wouldn't be a problem.
The cats just want to be fussed and the chickens may lay their eggs on your
front doorstep. We have a couple of older horses, but any riding of them
must be arranged with the aforementioned 15 yr. old.
Robert H. has already made arrangements to come dowwn later this month
and
shoot some deer, so we will have meat for the bar-b-que (Sorry Brad - I
don't know if you can do that to toffu) so we will have at least one meal
here - but as people's plans become more clear we can sort out what we want
to do.
If we are going to have a 'swap meet' here, then I need to know if
people
are going to need tables.
I'd like to get a fair picture of just who is coming, how many people
and
with what vehicles, so that I can make suitable plans.
If any of you have suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. I'd like to
make this a really good time for us all, an opportunity to put faces to
names, and just sit back and enjoy ourselves.
If I have forgotten anything. then please remind me. Oh - what do you
think about inviting the local chapter of the MG association (San Antonio)
to join us for the BBQ.? We are members, but don't attend the meetings, I
am afraid, but they are a decent enough set of people - and they may have
some items that they could add to the swap meet, besides their camaradarie
and experiences.
OK. I suppose that is it for now. Please let me know if you plan to
come
down, what you think so far, and if you have any ideas, or suggestions of
your own.
Elizabeth
