I'll need to disagree slightly with Frank. It won't be the first or last
time. Just like anything else a car is only worth what someone is willing
to pay for it. A In my experience it is easier to sell one in close to
original condition than one that has been customized. "Improvement" is in
the eye of the beholder. Original is much less subjective.

948s! I have to give them away and deliver them 1500 miles away to boot!
Ask Gary. I have tried to sell 948s for $100 in good running condition,
no takers. $50 still no takers. I still have one (if it didn't get
thrown out) at a friends garage complete with working smooth case
tranny. Cheap, U pick up (if it's still there)
If the car is dead nuts original, keep the 948. If you plan on any mods,
go for a 1275/5 speed. No engine #s ever matched the car #s. They were
close by up to 1000 digits or so.
As for value, again, total originality vs modern improvements can cause
one of those threads (Jay hates that term) that never ends. Not counting
concours, both are worth the same. (IMHO)
