Silly me.
Bought my MG and had it insured as a secondary car to my Jetta. Price wasn't
bad, till I found out that my carrier would think the car to be worth no more
than maybe $200, and they'd kill me if I ever filed a claim. Now, ALL the
usual disclaimers apply, but wow, I found out about Haggarty, and I'm one
happy camper. My insurer places the value of my car at $5,000 and I pay $110
annum to insure it, with no deductable. Plus, I'm not held to a mileage
limit, so I can drive to my heart's content; all I had to do was prove that I
had another car as my main form of transport.
SOme of you may recall my wiper troubles (they could start, but never start
without pulling the plug). First mechanic told me I would need a new wiper
motor, and said these are specific to the '78's and impossible to find. I
took the list's advice and found another guy to take care of it. The motor
does not need to be replaced. I talked to the mechanic today; he told me it
took him awhile, but he was able to fix the problem. Now, the wipers won't
park themselves, so I have to turn them off right when they are at rest.
Now, the wiper switch I paid good money for from the last mechanic: new
mechanic asked me if it is used. I was under the impression this was a new
part, but as it turns out, it does not work right. Ugh! He's going to work
around the problem and get the washer spray to work despite the faulted wiper
switch. Now, I know how you all feel about going to mechanics and all, but it
would have taken me a year to straighten all this out. I pick up the car
tomarrow, and I know it will pass state safety inspection before my temp
registration expires. To me, that is worth every cent.
So, I'm feeling pretty good. I've learned how to adjust my Weber thanks to a
very patient and thorough list member. I've found a mechanic I am totally at
ease with who knows and understands all things MG. And so, finally, I'm
looking forward to some happy motoring while summer is still with us.
Thanks for bearing with me guys, I know I've posted while I was a little too
panicked to think reasonably. So, rest assured, things are looking bright for
this Midget owner.
Thanks again,
Tom
