You will get the best power when ignition is timed so that you are just below detonation at higher rpms (3000 - 6000) at full throttle. At this point the distributor should be at max advance. I usually test this going up a hill. Don't worry about being right on the edge as a couple degrees here won't make that much diference. But the falloff is nonlinear so stay close. If you have problems at lower rpm the advance curve of the distributor is suboptimal (assuming everything else is in order.) |
