One word. Kevlar.
I just bought a new hose kit for my feline LBC. A full
kit for the XK engine was 14 hoses, all molded, and they
were $95US.
They should last for lifetimes. Which is nice, because
some are hard to get at.
(could be worse, some TRs have one hose that can
only be changed by removing the head. Try patching
that roadside!)
