Hi Chuck,

That is way too much voltage for a normal battery.  You will boil it dry
in no time.  It should have nice clean plates inside though.  We often
do a float charge on our station batteries at @15, this cleans the
plates from build up on them.  I would look into a new alternator or
regulator, or if it is adjustable like the old ones turn it down.
