I was just messing with my '67 Sprite's springboxes last week--after freeing
up a couple of broken bolts in the boxes with acetylene. I am almost certain
that the bolts are 3/8" fine thread. Sounds like somebody has changed the
bolts and seized nuts over somewhere along the line.
I think I would go back to 3/8" fine--get the bolt and nut and seize the nut
to the new/old box that has no nut in place. That would give you a new
bolt/nut and also would put new connectors in place. I would check the
other side too to see if it has been messed with--certainly to replace that
bolt.
If there were some reason I couldnt do that, then I would locate someone who
is parting out a Spridget and see about getting maybe both spring hangers,
since it is likely the other side has been dumbknuckled too.
