Listers,
My oldest son and I just returned from the Boston "BMW Ultimate Driving
Experience".
For younger drivers a 4-hour training session is given, including lectures
and seat time in the new BMW 3-Series. Emphasis is on skid control, braking,
accident avoidance and other stuff most of us learned the hard way. The
best part is it's free. There's also an autocross session for more
experienced drivers where you get to grind the tires off a new 328i.
Additionally, you can sign up for new BMW test drives (loved the Z3 2.8 5
spd, but I definitely have to go back for an M Roadster or M Coupe drive.)
BMW takes this show all across the US and it's probably available at a city
near you. This is the kind of driving instruction new drivers should be
receiving rather than the dopey stuff we used to get in driver's ed.,
although I can't think of James Dean without remebering pictures of his
Porsche spyder in "Death on the Highway". Visit www.BMWUSA.com and check
under "events" for details and registration info.
