Hey gang!
Many of you know I am in East Tennessee. I run a 1979 Midget (Taz) and am
restoring a 1967 Sprite (Vicky), and have a 1973 restorable Midget parts car
(Shambles). I recently joined the Smoky Mountain Austin Healey Club and have
been attempting to be very active in the club. There are some neat people in
the club.
Next weekend is a British Car Show in Townsend, Tennessee, apparently
sponsored by the Sevier County British Car Club (I think that is the name of
the club), which I am interested in attending, although the information
regarding said Show is scarce indeed. A friend who owns a Tr***ph and I are
talking about attending the show together, he driving his Tr***ph and I my
Midget, considering perhaps entering my Midget.
I discovered by word of mouth that there is to be a Pig Roast Saturday
evening and talked with my buddy about taking part, spending the night, and
socializing with the British Car people. I found out the name of the person
to contact was Carolyn Henrickson of the sponsoring club. So I e-mailed Ms.
Henrickson that I would like her to add two more persons to the Pig Roast
List. Her response was a curt, cold, unfriendly response that the pig roast
was "only for those showing their cars. Maybe next year." I am really upset
about that reply. I replied to her: "Hmmm--Very curt but to the point.
Have been considering entering my Midget--perhaps I will reconsider. Thanks."
As you can tell, I am wholly unimpressed with this person and this club.
Wouldn't it have been a lot more tactful and helpful to invite me to show my
car and to then enjoy the pig roast? Seems to me that would have been
supportive of the Townsend, TN show, instead of destructive, as it is.
Anyone else had to deal with this "holier than thou" attitude among British
car people? I KNOW she does not own a Spridget! Spridget guys and gals are
not like that.
