James, the rust in your tank can be removed in many ways, the one which I
have experience with is a gas tank sealing kit sold by POR-15 folks. the
first solution etches the tank and removes the rust, the second coats the
tank with a metallic-looking urethane. We did this to our SP**FIRE 2 seasons
ago, and had no problems whatsoever using race fuel- should be fine for
regular stuff. The kit cost (if memory serves) about $25 and is good for 2
spridget/sp**fire tanks.
