Adam Welcome to the list. Everybody else gave you pointers on the brakes but no one said anything about the signal/brake light problem. I would say you have a crossed wire on one of the tail lamps. If you had them out for the repaint, check the wires to the lamps. Green/purple goes to the brake light. Green/white goes to the turn signal Green/red goes to the other turn signal It is pretty hard to mess up the wires on the dash of a 74 unless you cut up the harness.
