  From my experience, you will have to replace your shoes
from contamination long before they wear out. 

  Contamination usually comes from a leaking axle oil seal
or a hydraulic system leak. Once the shoes are soaked
in fluid, they won't work again. You can clean them using
flames and trickery, but I usually just replace.
