I did this last year on my Bugeye let's see if I remember.
Glass goes in from the back side of the windshield. You will need to
remove the side pillars first. The seal has a groove on both sides the
frame has a flange on the inside that fits in the groove. I put the seal
in the frame first. Then I placed the frame face down on a heavily
padded surface (sleeping bag and a couple of thick blankets). I lubed
the seal with oily tire dressing stuff and put a length of twine in the
groove. I think I put the bottom section of the glass in first then
pulled the twine up while pressing down on the windshield to raise the
rubber lip and allow the windshield to pop in. If you need to pry up on
the rubber use a plastic knife or other such implement not metal. Do not
put too much force on it or pry too hard against the windshield. There
is also a groove on one side of the seal this is for the filler strip
and goes towards the inside of the car.
Time estimate: Two people 1 hour. One person damn near impossible.
I will be doing this job again this weekend on my '62 Midget and will
try to write down the exact procedure if you are not in a rush.
As far as a sealant I did not use one, but my car is garaged and rarely
driven in the rain. Heck I rarely put the top on.
Regards,
Peter.
