When I had my car painted, I had them remove the nipples and fair over the holes. I figured I wouldn't have the car out in the rain anyway. I haven't regretted it. I still have the original pneumatic hand pump thingy plugging up the hole in the dashboard, but I was thinking of putting a power-point in there for my cell phone (The most-used tool in the toolbox, and the most valuable tool in the safety kit.)
