Hi Robert, I used a bicycle cable too. They work in a pinch when nothing else is open except Wally world, or K-mart. Becareful though, I first got one that was plastic lined inside the cover and it bit into it when the engine compartment got a little warm. You might not have that problem in the cooler states. I thought at first it was a grounding problem as this will make the cable heat up, but my ground were fine, it was just ol fashioned 100 degree days that did it. Good luck and happy trails.
