Redcar (http://home.vicnet.net.au/~mikeg/cars/redcar.htm)
had another outing over the weekend - the AHSDC's
annual economy run. This is a combination of simple observation
rally and fuel economy competition.
My faithful navigator Peter Brice and I won the day with a fuel economy
of just over 46 mpg (16.5 km/l). Not bad for a 1380cc motor with a 286
cam and a DCOE45 weber!!!
Of course I used all the tricks of economy competition driving! We just
beat the Wily Tony Young (MkII Sprite, 948cc, SUs) by just 0.1 litres of
petrol!
Since I last reported, Redcar, Peter and I won the annual "Marysville
Meander"
- a 1 day navigation rally in which I let Peter drive. I won our class in
the
Motorkhana that accompanied this event. Peter and I (in Peter's car
this time) came second in the "DECA Dawdle" an observation rally.
I ran Redcar in open wheel to wheel racing at Winton a few weeks ago. Had a
good
time playing with half a dozen big healeys! We are all chasing our
international
licences for the big upcoming "Healey International Commemorative Race",
celebrating the 40th birthday of the sprite and DMH's 100th anniversary - to
be held at Mt Panorama on October 3/4. We're the main support race for
*the big* annual touring car event.
Now for the promised song. From the archives of the Austin Healey Sprite
Driver' Club
(http://www.cgl.rmit.edu.au/~mg/cars/ahsdc.htm) by an unknown author. This
song
was part of the 25th anniversary celebrations. I'll add lots of the songs to
the web site
over the next few weeks.
I've been working on my Bugeye
(Tune: Working on the Railroad)
I've been working on my Bugeye,
all the weekend long.
I've been working on my Bugeye,
please tell me what is wrong.
Don't you hear the spark plugs missing,
The head's got a crack right through,
And the radiator's hissing,
Please tell me what to do.
I've been working on my Mark Two,
all the weekend long.
I've been working on my Mark Two,
please tell me what is wrong.
Took all the parts from the Bugeye,
decided to make a new car,
But still the radiator's hissing,
I'm no mechanic by far.
I've been working on my Mark Three,
all the weekend long.
I've been working on my Mark Three,
since the other two went wrong.
Now it's looking like a Mark Three,
with bug eyes and a Mark Two grille,
But I still can't get the motor going,
and I don't think I ever will.
cheers, Mike
