Bill,
I normally slide the socket over the plug and use an adjustable wrench on
the socket to loosen the plug. Remove the plug and take out by hand (works
great when the engine is cold or at best a bit warm). Installation is the
reverse of removal (what else). Don't have to play with the alternator
with this technique.
