Chas,
mine used to do that every now and again aswell only it was the
front one and dumped
fuel all over the exhaust manifold which worried me lots! Anyway, I found it
was due to dirty petrol
and some grit getting stuck in the needle valve. After dismantling twice on
the roadside and thoroughly
blowing it clean everything was OK. As regards the gasket, I don't think
it's massively important.
I cut mine out of card. It shouldn't need to take any pressure, but just
needs to seal enough to stop
the fuel slopping around in the chamber from spilling out. When the needle
sticks open the chamber fills up
fast and overflows from under the thin metal plate where the fuel pipe is
connected and not through the gasket.
