I am following this .045 gap with interest.
You say it works. I have a Petronix on the A40 which has been great
(stock no frills Lucas coil) and .025 gap on the plugs. Let me know if a
larger gap works in the long run.

As for centrifical over vacuum advance.
No comparison.
Centrifical is the only way to go!
Drop a centrifical in any 1275 Sprite and it runs like a 67.
If only I had 2 more to fullfill all my engines.
I just popped one in my yellow Sprite and it made a world of difference.
Now I'm looking for another for the A40.
Anybody have any Lucas 23Ds they want to get rid of?
