Philip, Having no A-arm bushings most definitely would cause a clunking sound on acceleration and deceleration! You can be all but sure you have found the problem. By the way, A-arm = wishbone = control arm. The upper bushings are in fact the trunnion bushings. 30psi is still pretty high if you are using skinny tires. Like I said, if your old springs work for you and are not broken, I wouldn't replace them. If you buy repros you may end up with a car that leans, with springs that start sagging after 6 months, etc. That they are rusted is normal.
