Jim,

I always use a Uni-Syn. I start right at the beginning of the SU procedure
and go through it like a check list. I usually get at least a year of
driving out of a good adjustment. I have a haynes SU carb book and an old
Speed Sport motorbooks SU Carb book. The procedure is not hard. It starts
out with centering the jet and setting things at a good starting point. The
Uni-Syn really only helps balance the carbs it won't get the fuel/air
mixture or the idle set correctly. I don't want to discourage you, because
if I can do it , anyone can. The hardest part is getting the nuts on the
couplings loosened and retightened.

A lot of the books say you can actually balance the carbs with a stethescope
or small hose. I tried it. I could hear the difference in the sound of the
air, but my ear was not as good as my eye watching the floating ball in the
Uni-Syn.

Good luck.
