Enough play for you to notice is probably too much.  The procedure for 
replacing them is (simplified):
1)  Cut off old bushings
2)  Fit new bushings, using fulcrum pin to align them.
3)  Somehow hold them steady while you remove the fulcrum pin (the heat of the 
next step is bad for them)
4)  Silver solder in the new bushings

Personally, I let someone else do it when I redid my front end, mostly because 
I didn't have the time.
