I have removed the combination temperature/oil pressure gauge from my '72
Midget. The oil pressure line was previously disconnected and the
temperature gauge didn't work either. I also have the dash removed from the
car and I am trying to "improve" or correct as much as possible before
refitting the dash. There are two oil lines that look like they were at one
time or the other connected to the oil pressure gauge. The first, and
apparently oldest is a copper line and the second is a plastic line. Is it
okay to keep the plastic? Can the oil pressure gauge be tested out of the
car? Does anybody sell a kit or replacement for the line, I can't find a
replacement in any of my catalogs.

The temperature part of the gauge has a wire that is wound around a core
that extends about 11/2" out of the back of the gauge. The wire is broken
at the farthest point from the back of the gauge. The wire, I think, must
go to the temperature sensor. Can I just resolder it when I find the wire
connecting to the sensor? If not, do I need a new/rebuilt gauge with the
wire extending to the temperature sending unit?
