Two additions:

The speedo has the trip reset knob sticking out of it. To get the speedo
out, undo it and rotate it in the hole until you can pull it out.

To get the chrome rings off (mine came off easily anyway), you can put the
speedo face down on a piece of stiff rubber (a sheet of gasket/seal
material) and turn the speedo. If you are lucky, the chrome ring has
enough friction on the rubber and you can undo it w/o bending the tabs.

My british car place in Tucson stocked O-rings for use as seals between
speedo face and glass and speedo and dash. Since the O-rings are a little
thicker or stiffer than the original seals, assembly becomes very
difficult.
