Well, the Midg is running just great now. I think it's
what we used to call a "Transient Glitch." Too it out,
top down (60 degrees warm!) and it shifted Jes Fine.

Must be my old lady's gettin' a might peaked?

Thanks for all the helpful info. Perhaps the vent
hole in the master cylinder cap was plugged. I
dunno. But it's runnin' great now.
