Hey Gerard,
Your primer idea might be possible, but it sure matches the car's I took
it from color, still it could be aftermarket, and somebody, maybe a
dealer, matched the paint. The dashes on the 67's are partially wrinkle
finish, and that is why I know that most of these console are finished
in wrinkle paint, I just think some of these might have been painted
different.
I have one of the later consoles, it is vinyl covered, and a lot bigger.
That sounds like what you are talking about.
I really don't know why I am so concerned about this, but if I don't buy
one of Alan's, I and going to strip mine and wrinkle paint it when I
repaint my dash anyway. I would hate to destroy possible proof of a
correct option if I have one of the few examples.
