Frank's solution is certainly the easiest, but there is another
alternative if you should want to keep the original instruments and are
not adverse to some woodwork.  Simply cut out an approximately 3"x3"
piece of the wooden dash and rout a 1/4" shoulder on all edges.  Cut a
piece of metal (DISCARDED road sign is perfect thickness) to the same
size, with a hole the correct diameter 2 1/16") of the instrument.  You
can then mount the instrument to the metal insert in the same manner as
you would to a metal dash.
