Hey everyone,
Well I'm back to square one with my shim trouble (or maybe one and a
half), and need some advice.
Last weekend, I went over to finish my front end job (that was supposed
to be finished in December) with my 5 shiny new kingpin shims in hand,
to add to the two that I got with the front end rebuild kits. On the
left side, it took 3 shims, everything worked just fine. But on the
right side, I used the last 4, and when I tighten down the kingpin nut,
it still seizes. ARGH, and as you may remember, I had bought what had
amounted to the last 5 of these in the US.
So here is my dilemma now. I know I have to make my own. I bought some
brass shim stock (the original was tin, that doesn't matter does it).
So now I need to cut it. What is the best way to cut it any stay
reasonably accurate. I don't have a great deal of room for mistake
since the inner and outer diameters are pretty close. Also, I know that
I cannot drill the center since it would tear something so thin.
Any suggestions, its frustrating to be held up 3 weeks by something so
tiny.
