One complication was the throttle linkage: I was lucky and came
across the parts that the non-US MK IV's
used, which were never on any Spit imported to the US. Also, the
carbon canister complicated things a bit. In the non-US cars, a short
hose went directly from the breather valve on the manifold to the
valve cover. I had to put a Tee in that line to hook up the carbon
canister purge line, and the result is a bit kludgy-looking.
BTW, the MV-IV era spits never really had "positive crankcase
ventilation". There was a connection from the valve cover to the
carbs or manifolds to suck out the blowby, but there is nothing to
allow fresh air into the crankcase to replace it. You just end up
with a slight vacuum in the crankcase, and air being sucked in through
various nooks and crannies. Mabye they improved this on the 1500
models; I don;t really know.
