Diff gasket

I bought a pair of paper gaskets for the differential. The two I seperated had
no gaskets or sealer of any kind. Do I oil or grease the gasket? Or use it
dry? It's probably in the book but usually reassembly is described as the
reverse of disassembly. Not too enlightening.
