Quick update on progress so far.......thank you for all those that replied.
I have narrowed the problem down to differing pistons in the carbs. In the
front was AUC1422 which had no holes in the base. In the back AUC1423 which
had two holes. The two holes allowing more air to go through and obviously
not going higher as the throttle increased.
Have found an AUC1423 from a old set of carbs from a MkIII. Have cleaned it
up and put it in the car.
Car starts and pistons lift ok. Still slightly out of synch but it appears
the lost motion levers need alligning. Another job for tomorrow, together
with some balancing and tuning.
