I tended just to stick door handle gaskets in without any adhesive. Then
again, they did sometimes break and/or fall out after a couple of years, so
I might well have been wrong!
If you do stick them, I'd suggest sticking to the handle rather than the
door. That way, if you do ever need to scrape them off again, at least you
are not scraping on your precious painted metal!
