DON'T screw the adapter into the block and then screw the filter on to it.
Do it the other way around: Screw the adapter onto the filter,
and then screw both into the block. Then you should get a a reasonably
good number of threads screwed into both the filter and the block.
This woks for my adapter and my engine and the filters I buy.
If you do it, double check that it still works in your situation.
