Hi List(s),
Ok, to start off, some of these questions will require that you have the latest
V-B catalog (SG.40) to look at as reference.
1. On the cover of the catalog is a pair of SU carbs. The "choke" linkages go
down, make a 90 degree bend to horizontal, then a downward "U" bend (back to
horizontal) where they go into the red jet. Why the "U" bend? Why not just
down from the choke mechanism and then a 90 degree bend directly into the jet?
2. I may have asked this before - is there an early water pump that will fit
on the 1500 thermostat housing that does *NOT* have the shaft (for the press on
fan clutch) sticking out the front (like the one on the inside of the V-B
catalog cover)?
3. Radiators - the V-B catalog says (for the late 1500 radiators - like mine)
that the "Bolt side brackets are not included and are no longer available. You
must reuse your old brackets." Having not looked at my car in a while, does
this mean that the brackets unbolt from the old radiator, or is there some
cutting (or *un*welding) and rewelding required?
4. Braided stainless steel brake hoses - V-B wants $115 for a set of these for
my car. Seems a little steep, dollar-wise. Yes/no??
5. What are the lists thoughts on using the short air horns inside a K&N air
filter for SU HS-4s?
6. Looks like (if I'm reading this right) V-B offers both a fiberglass and ABS
trans tunnel cover (p. 18). What are the lists thoughts on these?
Preferences? I definitely want, and need, to replace mine (and cut a little
door for access to the clutch slave while I'm at it), but don't know the
relative pros/cons of each.
7. Although low on the priority list, I'd also be interested in a dual water
temp/oil pressure guage (Smiths) and ammeter (Smiths), *IF* they have the same
face design as my '78 Spit 1500 (I'm not into or interested in
remanufacturing/redesigning a gauge face).
Thanks a lot!
George P.
