My '76 1500 makes this god-awful clanging noise when idling - if I brace/hold 
the engine it will stop, and when the engine is running it stops as well.  I've 
checked all the engine mounts and they seem ok (the rubber's cracked, but 
that's about all).  As my friend the part-time mechanic says, "I don't know 
what it is, but it doesn't sound healthy."  Any thoughts?  Suggestions on how 
to pinpoint the sound/source?  Thanks
