Biggles Crankshaft

OK, long story short.  Three weeks ago (trying to be very good about 
maintenance)  I checked radiator fluid level and forgot to replace the cap!  
(Feeling 
dumb just admitting it)  Before I realized it--the water apparently evaporated 
free of the temp sensor (oil temp will be added soon).
       Don't worry, Biggles will fly again- I am in the process of rebuild.  

Here is what I found when I looked at the crank.

Large portions of the lobes have been ground away.  I am assuming this was 
done as part of a lighten and balance.  Biggles ran smoothly enough after some 
driveshaft fiddling, so I don't believe the crank to be  out of balance.  Does 
anyone know what has been done here?  I am needing to make the decision to 
replace this crank or not.  I need to know ASAP.
