Bob,
When you say:
> The charging light is not operating
Do you mean that, when you turn the ignition on but don't start the engine,
the charging light does not come on? Because, if this is the case, the
alternator won't work. You need some current flowing through this bulb to
"excite" the alternator and get it going. This would explain why:
> I am getting only 12.3 V out of it, which is battery voltage
Hopefully it's just a blown bulb.

Subject: Alternator Not Charging
Listers,
My brand new, lifetime warranted, rebuilt Lucas 15ACR (Duralast- HAH)
has apparently died after less than 100 miles. I called AutoZone, who
told me that it is NO LONGER AVAILABLE (I just bought it in May). Any
advice on determining if the new one is well and truly dead? I am
getting only 12.3 V out of it, which is battery voltage The charging
light is not operating, which is how my old alternator was behaving
before I replaced it.
Therefore, I am considering the GM alternator. Anybody got a part
number for the GM? I am unable to get into the List archive to search.
Is the Spitfire pulley used with the GM alternator?
