Greetings once again,
Well, the 74 Spit has developed a new noise. Me thinks it is a manifold
exhaust leak, but I'm not sure. At idle it sounds like an old lawn mower
with a bad muffler. The noise is definitely coming from the engine. It
almost goes away above idle with no load, but under load it's back. I have
the stock Stromberg intake, and a Pacesetter type 4-1 header. The idle has
also deteriorated since the noise began. Does it sound like I'm on the
right track? Could the gasket be resealed? I'd like to drive the car while
I wait for a new gasket to arrive.
Also, my thanks to all who rendered advice on my rear suspension/axle
rebuild. I'm happy to report that all the funny noises and vibrations are
gone! I should have done this a lot sooner. My only remaining issue is a
slightly bent hub, which causes a bit of wobble in the left rear wheel.
Using my calibrated eyeball it looks like about 3/8" at the tread. Is that
unacceptable, or should I just run it?
