Ground strap on mine connects the body to the engine block using one of the
bolts above the starter that hold the bellhousing to the engine. Don't know
if it's "original", but I've routed the battery negative cable from the
battery box to the same body mounting point as the ground strap.

Do you have a generator or an alternator?

If a generator, you should polorize the field coils before connecting the
leads. Easy to do:
1. Connect the battery ground cable to the battery (and the chasis end to
the bellhousing if not already done)
2. Connect a length of wire to the positive battery terminal that is long
enough to reach the terminals on the back of the generator.
3. Touch the wire to each lead on the back of the generator in turn. Should
see a small spark.

If an alternator, skip steps 1-3 };>

I finally got my battery and spark plug wires and now i need to connect
everything. Correct me if i am wrong but the negative terminal gets
grounded to the Bell housing where it connects to the engine correct? OR is
there a different place to gound it? I am new to this whole rebuilding
thing. ALso...is it necessary to do anything with the generator and the
battery before hooking wires to the generator?
Thanks,
  Dave
