Not all tires of identical specs are identical in
shape.
Very often, if you look between brands and even within
brands between models, tires with the exact same DOT
rating can have different widths, bulges, measured
diameter and even rim fittament.
For example:
Yokohama Aegis LS4 165/80R13 = 23.5" Outside diameter
Dunlop Axiom 165/80R13 =23.4" Outside diameter
Not a glaring example, but it's the sizes you're
referencing and all they had on Tire Rack.
It's all dependant upon the tire flexability, tread
depth and the over-all design.
The 23.5" OD is what I have on my 1500, but I also
lifted the front end 1" over stock...and now that some
other light mods in place, it looks closer to 1.5"-2"
higher. I get no tire cutting or bottoming out.
I would stick to at or under 22" outside diameter for
early models, and spitfires with lowered suspensions.
Just to make you think. 205/45VR16's are only around
22.5" in diameter. Some rice-burners with huge rims
are driving around with smaller diameter tires our
Spits.
