Ladies / Gents

I wonder after my tale, someone can give me an indication of what I might be
missing?

When I bought my Mk1 Spit, she was running rich. So much so, all the sparks
were black. I put some of it down to not being used for 10 years and being
started, with choke, every couple of weeks or so. Previous owner thought it
was the choke cable.

Well, I did some work on other parts of the car and took her to a local
garage for a quick check over. Really wanted to see how much more was
required to make her roadworthy. Mechanic thought the rich running was the
jets.

I replaced the jets, needles and generally overhauled the carbs. Coupled
with this I replaced the floats and float valve.

Purchased colortune to see how I was doing. The carb nearest the front of
the car appeared ok, with the sparks showing a blue, verging slight white
mixture. Rear was showing yellow. Checked the needle and it wasnt level
with the piston, so moved it down.

Now it will not hold tick over and the spark ignition colour is more white
blue. When trying the accelerator she just dies, like its flooding. Have
tried the mixture adjusting nuts on the bottom of the carbs to no avail.

Previously all leads, contacts and dist cap have been replaced. Fuel is
getting through and float does as it says and the fuel is cut off. Fuel can
be seen in the jets and does not flood out.

One thing I have noticed is that with the air filters off the rear carb does
push out air (with possibly some petrol) with a popping sound. Its not all
the time, just occasionally.

Am I missing anything that I havent yet checked?

Thanks

Martin
