Hey, I hope this isn't too out of line - I haven't been paying 100%
attention to the fan thread. I just noticed in one of the posts the
statement that "some 1500 owners have managed to install puller fans" (or
something to that effect - sorry if I've misquoted the original poster).
I have a '78 1500 (USA/Fed.) and removed the viscuous coupled fan and
installed 2 puller fans on the radiator. I had to install 2 fans of
different sizes because the water pump shaft (on which the viscuous coupled
fan originally mounted) stuck out too far. Not only does it work, but it
works well. Once I discovered that the radiator cap had gone bad, my car
runs right in the optimum temp range. The fans switch on and off to keep it
right where it should be.
So yes, it can be done. FYI - fans were purchased from Scott's Fans in CA
and came complete with all mounting and electrical hardware.
