If the alternator's draining the battery (voltage dropping when you plug in
the alternator), could be that your voltage regulator is bad. I had the
same problem w/ my '78 (VR built in to the alt) and the rebuilder put in the
wrong regulator. Consequently, even with the newly rebuilt alternator, the
battery kept discharging. Just a thought...
