ballast resistor and spark plug gap with sports coil and

A quick couple of questions:


Firstly, what does a ballast resistor do? It came loose and started
shorting out on anything negative yesterday.

Second, what was the decision on the spark plug gap when using a Lucas
sports coil and electronic ignition?
