Hi Everyone,
So I've gotten all the way to the point where the rear
main seal is out of the carrier (which is off the
engine), and I am ready to put the new one in --
unfortunately, my Haynes and Chilton manuals are
really spotty on the procedure. So again, I ask the
wise folks of this list -- how does one go about
replacing a rear main seal? I've never done it before,
and since I've gotten this far, I want to make sure I
do it right! Specific questions I have...do I use any
sealant? And does the seal go on the carrier before or
after I reinstall the carrier on the engine? And, of
course, anything else that'll make this simpler and
succesful.
Thanks!
Adam
